Past Projects - 2017 Year

In May 2017 People Speak Up was created by Eleanor Shaw and supported by Theatrau Sir Gar and Llanelli Town Council.

2017 was the start of PSU growing our Arts, Health and Wellbeing Hub and starting to create a space in response to what our community needed.

Over 50s Festival

PSU created a space for older people in our community to be part of the Gwanwyn Festival over 50s.

Gwanwyn Festival is a month-long national festival held across Wales in May each year celebrating creativity in older age and organised by Age Cymru. In 2017 we held free four workshops such as arts, creativity, circus, dance and movement with professional artists. We created a space for over 50s could learn new skills, and meet new people. This was also the launch pad of our Over 50s group who now meet every Monday at PSU

Our Town

In August 2017, we organised a visual arts and storytelling intergenerational project, our Town, bringing together older and younger people. Facilitated by Gillian St John Griffiths & Eleanor Shaw we invited everyone to bring stories, photos and memories to create and visualise their Llanelli and Ammanford community.  On 1 September we shared their creations as part of an Exhibition at Llanelli Library. The project was supported by Carmarthenshire Libraries, Theatrau Sir Gar and Tesco Bags for help.

Tell Your Story

We piloted a new storytelling project working with The Tenovus Sing With Us Choir Llanelli. Tell your story was an open community group at The Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli and The Alzheimers day centre in Ammanford.

Funded by Arts Council of Wales we explored different ways of investigating stories from our lives, that needed to be shared. What started our as a pilot idea led onto PSU looking at how we could continue to offer a voice for those who want to connect through music and song and the PSU People Sing Up Choir was established.

Story Gathering

Working with Fusion and Communities First we worked with older people in our community in different types of workshop settings to gather stories, personal and mythical. We then shared these stories at the end of the project at The Ffwrnes Fach.
