What is your favourite thing about coming to Street Play?
The colouring and playing with Ivy and Nansi.
What positive changes have you noticed in your children since coming to Street Play?
Moreso with Nansi, she mixes with other children better. And personally, with me, because I often don’t see them in the day, I get to spend time with them here, so I get to interact with them as well as them being given space to interact with other children.
How does Street play make you feel?
Happy.
What do you think are the long term effects of Street Play on your child and other children who attend?
Them being happy, it’s something that they look forward to. As soon as they see the tents go up, the instant they see them, they become excited, and they also enjoy seeing you guys (Kris and Ffi). It’s nice to see them happy.
Do you think Street Play has had a positive effect on your community?
Yeah, It brings everyone together. It is nice and it has brought children together. They wouldn’t normally mix with the other children who live around here, so I think it has.

Elaina, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m 7 years old, nearly 8 years old. I like playing with my sister and the doll house and I like relaxing and getting comfy.
How did you hear about Peoplespeakup?
I joined the admin department at People Speak Up during lockdown as a freelancer, and I’ve been working there ever since. I really loved that we started doing the Street Play project and talked to Eleanor about it as I was interested in becoming part of the facilitation team. Through this project I have now been able to get Play Training, and start working on the Street Play project, which is super exciting and rewarding for me both personally and professionally. I have now got a part time contract with People Speak Up and love being a member of staff.
When did you start coming to Street Play?
My kids started coming to Street Play back when the project began, but they’ve been coming much more often lately.
What is your favourite thing about coming to Street Play?
We get to play lots of fun games I think! My favourite is probably ping pong and badminton. I don’t know for sure.
What positive changes have you noticed in your children since coming to Street Play?
I’ve noticed a huge change in their confidence level for sure, in the way that they interact with other children, especially older children. Also they’re more confident around adults now, and they find it easier to join in group activities and try new things. Elaina learned how to play badminton and other sports at Street Play, and she loves playing those now.
How does Street play make you feel?
Excited
What do you think are the long term effects of Street Play on your child and other children who attend?
I’ve been lucky enough to work at some of the Street Play sessions, and also volunteer in the more recent ones and I’ve noticed a huge change in the freedom that the kids display with their play. They also become more independent as time goes on, and more self-assured.
Do you think Street Play has had a positive effect on your community?
I think it has an amazing effect on the community, it gives children a safe space to play and just be kids, which is so healthy for their development and it definitely allows children to mix with kids they probably wouldn’t have met elsewhere, and feel like they’re more integrated in their communities. I think it also helps to have these things take place in more disadvantaged areas that wouldn’t normally have services.
